A Fan Filter Unit (FFU) is the heart of any cleanroom. Proper operation and regular maintenance ensure stable cleanliness, energy efficiency, and a long service life. This guide covers everything you need to know – from basic handling and control panel operation to filter replacement cycles and safety precautions.
Whether you are a cleanroom contractor, a facility manager, or an overseas distributor, following these steps will help you get the most out of your FFU.

Before operating your FFU, familiarize yourself with its key parts:
|
Component |
Description & Handling Tips |
|
Handles |
Always hold the handles when moving the FFU. Lift and place gently to avoid impact or deformation. |
|
HEPA Filter |
During installation, place the filter flat into the filter frame with the airflow arrow pointing downward. |
|
Maintenance Platform |
When servicing, stand on the designated maintenance platform. Do not step on other parts of the FFU (such as the fan wheel area) to avoid damage. |
|
Control Section |
AC220V, 50Hz, international 3-pin / C13 inlet. Includes power switch and speed control (high/medium/low). |
Power connection: AC220V, 50Hz
Switch: Rocker switch (illuminates red when ON)
Speed adjustment: Rotary switch with 3 gears – High, Medium, Low
Simply turn on the power, select desired speed, and the FFU starts working.
The DC FFU control panel offers more precise speed regulation and communication functions:
Functions:
Start/stop motor
Increase / decrease motor speed
Speed feedback and display
Communication with repeater board
Power supply: 220V AC
Communication: RS485 bus (two pairs of 485 communication wires internally connected; supports daisy-chain wiring)
Display (digital tube):
When powered off → displays set speed
When powered on → displays actual speed
When setting slave address → displays address number
Three buttons under the digital tube:
Start motor
Increase speed
Decrease speed
LED indicators:
Red LED → power indicator
Yellow LED (flashing) → normal communication and polling status
⚠️ Warning: Connect power as shown in the diagram. Use the international 3-pin / C13 inlet (AC220V, 50Hz). After turning on the rocker switch (red light on), rotate the speed dial to the desired gear.
Follow these steps to safely operate your FFU:
Connect power – AC220V, 50Hz.
Turn on the speed controller – Adjust to the desired airflow (high/medium/low or variable speed).
Confirm normal operation – Listen for unusual noise and feel for airflow.
Wait 3 minutes – Allow the FFU to stabilize before starting critical cleanroom work.
Using FFUs, support frames, and anti-static curtains, you can assemble cleanrooms and production lines of various sizes – from ISO 5 to ISO 8 (Class 100 to Class 100,000).
Advantages:
Modular, assembled structure – short on-site construction time
Lower cost compared to traditional built-in cleanrooms
Ideal for small-area clean zones
Regular maintenance keeps your FFU running efficiently and extends filter life.
Wipe the FFU housing regularly with a soft, dry cloth.
Keep the unit free of dust buildup.
Replacement interval: Every 6 to 12 months (depending on usage and environment).
After replacement: Re-test the FFU’s technical parameters (airflow, uniformity, leak integrity). Do not put the unit back into service until it meets required standards.
⚠️ Always use genuine HEPA filters matched to your FFU model. Contact us for replacement filters.
Do not place the FFU in areas with high-speed dust sources or strong vibration.
Do not wipe the housing with volatile oils, thinners, corrosive solvents – this may damage the paint or cause discoloration.
Avoid using the FFU in the following environments:
Low temperature / high temperature
High humidity / condensation
Excessive dust
Oil smoke or mist
Ensure sufficient service space for fan and filter replacement, and for electrical maintenance.
If the FFU is installed in an air shower with mirror stainless steel interior, do not scratch the surface with hard objects.
Always place the FFU in its final position before connecting power or plugging in the cord – to prevent personal injury.
Confirm that the rated voltage and frequency (AC220V, 50Hz) match your power supply. Using incorrect parameters may damage electrical components or cause fire.
